Ed did identify the fake protocols as "trumped up". I do think it is
important to point out that they were a malicious forgery fabricated with
an intent to do harm. The forgery was actually published around 1905 and I
think the timing is significant.
There are two important lessons to be learned from this forgery and its
gullible reception:
1. Be wary of "conspiracy theories"
BUT ALSO
2. Don't entirely dismiss the possiblity of conspiracy -- the libel and
lie was itself a conspiracy.
