Yes, I think the use of brain-damaging and mind-altering drugs among the "1968ers" generation has led to the braindead and sociopathic policies that we now see being implemented since they have arrived in senior positions. That's yet another argument against the further proliferation of drugs. (Unfortunately it's a vicious circle in that the same guys now lobby for the legalization of their beloved drugs, of course under hypocritical guise of "anti-crime" rhetoric.) > And there will always be something which will be made illegal so that > big profits can be made and large numbers of people whose jobs depend on > the persistence of the addiction. Who is making "big profits" -- those who made the drugs illegal ? Are you saying that the drug mafia is dictating drug policies ? (Hint: even larger numbers of jobs depend on legal drugs, both in production and clean-up of damages.) > (Probably something like three-fifths of > all crime would disappear if drugs were legalised and prices drop to free > market prices. Legalizing drugs leads to proliferation that leads to health & social damages whose costs would quickly outdo the "savings". Also, you can't legalize _all_ drugs anyway (see next posting, to Pete), and if you just legalize some, the mafia will simply switch to other (still illegal) drugs. A rat-race to the bottom, at the cost of public health...
