Chris, I shall try to avoid being humorous when correcting you as you really don't seem to get it. The English think the Germans have no sense of humor -- perhaps the strong Germanic component of the Swiss people confirms that belief. Or, perhaps my quips are not so funny as I think.
Exchanging goods is far better than exchanging bullets. Free-trade, which merely describes a country dropping its trade restrictions no matter what other countries do, is a magnificent expediter of cooperation. I thought that trade cooperation with the Nazis allowed Switzerland to stay out of the war? Yes, trade fosters peace. The same applies to Sweden which sold its steel to the Nazis during the war. As I have said, when I was fearfully pressing myself into the gutter, the bombs coming down probably contained Swedish steel and the aircraft overhead may have run on Swiss instruments. Yet, debating aside, I don't blame either country. They were trying to survive next to a continuing threat. Which is what Israel is trying to do. ******************************* Henry George School of Social Science of Los Angeles Box 655 Tujunga CA 91042 818 352-4141 ******************************* > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:futurework- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Christoph Reuss > Sent: Friday, July 29, 2005 11:03 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [Futurework] So, does trade foster peace or not? > > Harry Pollard wrote: > > He may have guilt feelings about Switzerland's expanding > > trade with the Nazis in WWII > > Harry keeps contradicting himself -- he claimed that trade fosters > peace, > but now he criticizes CH for doing trade during war.
