Economics doesn’t have to be complicated

 

A new website by Steve Cord offers among other things a summary and a partial list of studies of the results of a simple change of local taxes from building values to land values.

 

In all 237 studies around the world, the results have been positive with building increasing, vacant and under improved sites disappearing, along with a general economic improvement for each city.

 

Twenty two of them have been in Pennsylvania where there is a strong movement to save the disintegrating city of Philadelphia from itself by changing to land-value taxation. As always, the opposition comes from the relatively few people who own the City land but who love to tax its people.

 

Also hundreds of endorsements including 8 Economic Nobels (Milton Friedman, Herbert Simon, Paul Samuelson, James Tobin, James Buchanan, Franco Modigliani, Robert Solow, and William Vickrey).
