Don't agree much with Krugman, but I think he has a point.
 
Has European countries stayed with their own currencies, when their
economies began to get messy, it would have shown up in their monetary
exchange rates.
 
As it is we have strong Euro states like Germany in bed with casualties like
Greece with no weakening drachma to give warning..

And more Krugman.  The idealistic concept that a bunch of countries with
differing problems and different fiscal and administrative systems can
operate under a single currency is bound to unravel.
