I don't agree with him that there is no alternative. He beat that same
dead horse when he helped defeat Al Gore and gave us George Bush and the
war. Democrats are lazy. Republicans are not. The Republicans have won
because they out maneuvered the Democrats and they out organized and out
theorized the Democrats on every point. Obama held hope with his
credentials and intellectual skills but he has proven to be not up to the
job. He was out organized by a concert pianist, Sam Lipman, now dead, but
who started the ball rolling by capturing the wealthy by convincing them
that the Democrats and Liberals were the enemy of wealth. Sam Lipman was
another product of UC Berkeley just as were those two new millionaire
economists we spoke of yesterday. The stale stench is difficult stay in
the room with. I never was very good at it. I was around during that
whole thing and one day I will write about it from the view where I sat.
Sam was my coach for a time but he was a right wing radical and his buddy
Hilton Kramer and their magazine the New Criterion served as the
intellectual basis for the right until the Koch brothers started Cato.

Hedges is articulate but not much use in this system. He is as out of
touch with the system as are the neo-Feudalists.

movement

Another voice from the barricades. First time I've heard a blunt account of
what is going on in "Occupy Wall Street". The mainstream media have not told
us much about this insurgency, probably less than about the Arab Spring.
Let's hope the movement keeps up its momentum.

Hedges is the author of a number of great books, among which Death of the
Liberal Class and Empire of Illusion.
