Real dialogure requires the actions to enable effective communication and
listening and not simply the rhetoric.

Harper and his gang have been actively working to undermine the capacity of
the possible interlocutors in various areas of national issues/dialogue in a
most contemptible fashion including through the muzzling of the scientists
and now the NGO's; through the cancellation of programmes for evidence based
discussion rather than faith/revelation based discussion as with the census,
and the various native and envrironmental think tanks; and the demonization
of the "other" as "radicals", aliens etc.

Some folks might still see a continuing opportunity for "dialogue" in the
midst of those wreckings, but at least Harper and his gang aren't
sufficiently hypocritical to suggest that they also have an interest.

Canada was built on dialogue--between indigenous peoples and settlers,
between French and English, between East and West. It is precisely the
actions of Harper et tout that is undermining those dialogues and putting
the future of our peaceable dominion at very considerable risk and strain.

For dialogue and for listening to the other it seems that vulgar acts as a
barrier. So I favour either common or formal in dialogue and getting to
understand the views and values of the other.

Three kinds of speech in playwriting and poetry. Formal, Common and
Vulgar. Vulgar often carries the direct meaning while formal carries the
social agenda. Calling them a gang is common at least and maybe vulgar
although it's very mild vulgar. However it does tie them to some rather
famous vulgar boys. The question could be asked whether genuine examination
is possible using Formal speech in these days. New Yorkers tend to favor
the vulgar. I grew up with the formal. Both the Army and New York City
was a bright flash of truth and a breath of honesty. Still vulgar that is
too fresh usually has a band odor. It needs seasoning and exceptional
artistry to work. I would tend to call the rightwing "warmongers" since
the rattle the sabers constantly. Calling them a gang reduces them to
common criminals which they may be as well. But listen to Romney and his
clique and you hear that the Soviet Union is the greatest current threat to
peace. Yes he said "Soviet Union."

Interesting that during the sponsorship scandal there was no talk about
Chretien and his gang.

And that was a way to buy power and influence in Quebec.

Hmmm... You call it civil discourse, I call it voter suppression or worse...

More outrageous and very likely illegal behaviour from Harper and his gang

The only gang I seem to see is the gang that has lost its taste for civil
discourse. And so, it seems, has lost its way.

The activities or interests of an individual/incumbent surely shouldn't be
the issue except for the organized thuggery of Harper and his gang.

Another example among many being the sad (and extremely embarrassing for
Canada) history of The Centre for Rights and Democracy, neither of which
Harper and his gang have much interest or respect for...

Note that the president of the National Round Table on the Environment and
the Economy David McLaughlin is quite committed to global warming. He is a
strong proponent of cap and trade. Maybe he can enter that part of the
brokerage business after NRTEE.
