As I'm in NS, I gather that's directed to me, not Mike G.

What's your source for "average 3' above sea level"? I don't think
that's right -- off by at least an order of magnitude, maybe two
orders. The Halifax waterfront and the waterfront areas of many
villages and towns are only a meter or three above ordinary storm
surge levels and are at risk from very severe storms and in the long
term.

> ...start getting prepared?

By insuring low-lying properties while disinvesting in insurance
companies that offer such insurance, investing in undeveloped
(sub)urban real estate that will eventually become valuable
waterfront.... Killing to be made. Disaster is good for the GNP.

But you didn't mean that. :-)

WRT the posted article, Boston, in the early 18th c. was a couple of
hills at the end of a narrow neck, all surrounded by ponds, salt marsh
and shallow bays. Most of modern Boston, excepting chiefly Beacon
Hill and the North End, is built on fill dumped into those swamps and
bays.

Back to the question: corporatist doctrine doesn't see any forth-
quarter profit in planning or regulating for 2050. Like the recently
(and, I gather, ongoingly) implemented financial strategies, IBGYBG, [1]
y'know? Goes for politicians, too.

Hey, we graduated from Wharton two months ago, and we're not
rich yet! We don't have any real managerial or
entrepreneurial skills, what can we do?

     Hedge fund manager #2:

Why don't we invent a bogus investment vehicle like a credit
        default swap?

     Hedge fund manager #1:

But won't that bankrupt the country when the whole thing goes
        to shit?

     Hedge fund manager #2:

Who cares? IBGYBG. We went to Wharton.
