I didn't say it was wrong. All I said is that that is what they are doing.
Every group's responsibility, first and foremost, is to protect its own
interests and those of its members. I don't know very much about labour
law, so I can't comment on whether unions could sue. I suppose they could
under some circumstances. However, their primary weapon is the strike, and
that has been pretty potent in protecting their interests.

I agree that things are unjust and unfair. We have publicly operated
universal medical care here in Canada, but it is currently underfunded and
being allowed to run down. It would probably take just as long to deal
with a melanoma here as in the US. Canada is facing all kinds of pressure
to move to a two-tired public/private system which would permit the well to
do to get to the front of the line. Personally, I would not want to see
that, but something will have to be done.

Well, perhaps they will repent on their deathbeds and give all their money
to worthy causes. One can only hope.
