WBW, I couldn't agree more, I was commenting on Brad's easy solution of transfering the state of Israel to some place far away from the Middle East. And I was also saying that it is interesting that one can say that about a Jewish state without any compunctions.
I have been teaching classes with Jews and Arabs - Moslems and Christians, as well as Druse - for years. People get along, even if they do not become intimate friends. Despite my (personal) investment in acquiring sociological tools of analysis, I am still astounded at the ease with which politicians and militarists can manipulate those very same people (even those with the 'close interreligious friendships') into positions where they have no choice but to be 'enemies.'
