The symbolization process is important for human development and I can think of only one 'thing' more important but I'll let Helen Keller speak here:

I've come to view teaching as spiritual love (agape*) making.

*agape (love) meaning:

            -merciful reaching out (helpfulness)

            -bestowing the other with respect & dignity

            -judging the other as a moral equal
