Am I wrong in thinking that the settlements are perceived by the Jews as ancient Jewish land, built almost as a "try to stop us" dare, with all kinds of sympathy not only among the settlers but among the Israeli population as a whole? If that is the case, they are so integral to a solution to the Israeli/Arab conflict that they must be dismantled if there is to be a solution. My understanding is that they will not, cannot, be dismantled. All hell would break loose in Israel. If they cannot be dismantled, there is no solution. As Arthur suggested, wait fifty years?
