Kelly Galileo
------ --------

Just wanted to Baited the bear
be left alone

Historically One of the most important
unconsequential individuals of all times

"Was not threatened" Was shown the instruments of torture

Told truth Lied because knew hie accusers
                      were not worth dying for.

Killed himself Muttered under his breath:
because he "Eppur si muove" and lived
could not cope to a ripe old age
with being jerked under house arrest.

Somewhere between David Kelly and Galileo,
in the jungle -- I mean: in civil society --,
is Wen Ho Lee.

Kelly joins the man who perhaps did as much
to defeat Hitler as anyone, Alan Turing, as
a recipient of The Ultimate Reward Bestowed
by The British Empire for outstanding
patriotic servide: to be hounded to
kill yourself.

Meanwhile, back in America, the man who
probably did as much as anyone to
enable Truman to obliterate Hiroshima and
Nagisaki, J. Robert Oppenheimer "only"
got striped of his security clearance
(well, he was only suspected of being
a comsymp, not also of being homosexual!).

"And history continues." (--Elsa Morante)

I find the news about Dr. Kelly exceptionally
disgusting (some of us identify with the
fate of persons we imagine might be
ourselves...). But, who knows, maybe the
truth is that what the police have found
is not Dr. KJelly but a body double, and
Dr. Kelly himself is now safely in the
U.S. witness protection program, getting
a face-life and a new life.
