U.S., Mexico sign agreement to help U.S. businesses investing in Mexico

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A United States agency could provide loans of up to $250
million to American businesses investing in Mexico under an agreement
signed Monday by the United States and Mexican governments.

The agreement, which must also be approved by Mexico's Chamber of Senators,
was signed in San Francisco at the Partnership for Prosperity, a workshop
on investment and financing opportunities in Mexico attended by Mexican and
American government officials, businesses and scholars.

It would allow the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, a U.S. government
agency that helps American businesses invest overseas and encourages economic
development in emerging markets, to provide loans of up to $250 million per
project.
