sorry -- i should have been much more clear. yes, my thinkpad can
suspend correctly, to either ram or disk. fvwm-crystal's "Exit" menu
contains a "Suspend" entry which works correctly -- the laptop gets
suspended after i'm logged out. i was hoping for a similar
canned "Suspend" mechanism (another menu entry, i guess) that
would suspend the system without logging me out. since i think i
can write a shell script to do this, here's an equivalent
question: how do i add the invocation of a script to one of the
pre-defined menus?

i found the "userconfig" mechanism by reading the system
script which implements "Include". i'll take another look to see
why ~/.fvwm-crystal might be preferred.

thanks,
