DOH!  i've gotten so used to using the power button, or the on-screen
icon under Gnome to bring up the panel of shutdown/suspend/hibernate/lock
icons that i'd totally forgotten about Fn-F4.  unfortunately, under
gnome Fn-F4 works fine, but under fvwm-crystal, it doesn't.  the
sleepbtn.sh script is being run, but nothing happens.  anyway, this
is now a different debugging problem that i won't bother the list
with anymore.
