sorry -- i should have been much more clear. yes, my thinkpad can
suspend correctly, to either ram or disk. fvwm-crystal's "Exit" menu
contains a "Suspend" entry which works correctly -- the laptop gets
suspended after i'm logged out. i was hoping for a similar
canned "Suspend" mechanism (another menu entry, i guess) that
would suspend the system without logging me out. since i think i
can write a shell script to do this, here's an equivalent
question: how do i add the invocation of a script to one of the
pre-defined menus?
Ok yeah, much more clear :)
Actually, I have a thinkpad also and I suspend by using Fn+F4 for
example. If you're interested in this method check out my post:

I'm not sure about the menu stuff, you're going to have to wait for
someone else to help you out there. You may want to poke around
/usr/share/fvwm-crystal/fvwm/ where most of the configuration files are.

i found the "userconfig" mechanism by reading the system
script which implements "Include". i'll take another look to see
why ~/.fvwm-crystal might be preferred.
thanks,
