Ahh, this is actually a common problem for us (this _class_ of problem
is common for us, I should say), in that we are using a perfectly
appropriate Gtk+ function which is, behind the scenes, doing something
one would not expect.  I am not sure what an appropriate fix for this
is.

Regarding another note on _NET_WM_DEMANDS_ATTENTION; we in fact had
quite a discussion on this point some time back, and there was some
disagreement on exactly whether or not or how this was intended to be
different from urgency, and whether this hint was intended to be set
by the window manager and desktop environment, or the application
itself.  I don't recall the resolution, but in any case I do not feel
that this hint is involved in this situation -- we suppor the
XUrgencyHint for the case when we would like to "demand" attention,
leaving the policy up to the user.  (For example, Fvwm invokes a
function when this hint is set.)
