Ahh, this is actually a common problem for us (this _class_ of problem is common for us, I should say), in that we are using a perfectly appropriate Gtk+ function which is, behind the scenes, doing something one would not expect. I am not sure what an appropriate fix for this is. Regarding another note on _NET_WM_DEMANDS_ATTENTION; we in fact had quite a discussion on this point some time back, and there was some disagreement on exactly whether or not or how this was intended to be different from urgency, and whether this hint was intended to be set by the window manager and desktop environment, or the application itself. I don't recall the resolution, but in any case I do not feel that this hint is involved in this situation -- we suppor the XUrgencyHint for the case when we would like to "demand" attention, leaving the policy up to the user. (For example, Fvwm invokes a function when this hint is set.) Ethan -- The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws [that have no remedy for evils].
