Try  pypanel.  It's  very  configurable, light and looks good. It also
includes a tray, which you can turn on and off. Pypanel worked with
GTK apps, but I didn't try it with QT. Try it, and tell us =)

I used pypanel before I finally found time to design my own "taskbar"
using FvwmButtons + swallowed IconMan =)

Or, use gnome-panel or kicker + tray plugins. Personally, I don't like
them, too heavy.

Also, I have a cool WindowList so I really don't see a use for a tray,
I can find my windows very easily when they are iconified.
