We haven't heard anything here in Alberta, where half of Edmonton and I 
think all of Calgary is Shaw@Home.  I've advised those people who use/plan 
to use our VPN to watch out for this, but they haven't heard anything 
either.  I think it is probably an isolated isp trying to put the squeeze 
on.  What they will find, is exactly as everyone has mentioned.  There is 
competition now, and these cable companies just haven't figured out how to 
deal with that yet and toss their monopoly attitude.  I switched my home 
and work connection to ADSL and my tv to satellite after a falling out at 
work with the cable company last year.  No regrets here...

The first edition of ADSL here actually didn't support VPNs because it was 
behind a very strict firewall and used private addressing.  That didn't 
last long and the service is very open now.
