deal with the support calls....

Well they share the same class A ips.

Definitely not the same network.
MediaOne sold off the "internet" division and it became "RoadRunner".
Even though RoadRunner is one company, the network is broken up a bit
by regional location. Some regions have their own DS3/OC12 internet
connections
and were originally autonomous prior to the merger of MediaOne Express and
RoadRunner.
With the AT&T purchase of Mediaone (cable television), due to some oddities
in how all
these companies evolved, some regions are no longer RoadRunner and the
broadband internet
divisions are being sold to AT&T along with the Television services.
So once the merger with AT&T is complete, several locations like
Jacksonville, FL will
become their own networks seperate from RoadRunner like it was prior to the
mergers.
Comcast shares no resources with TimeWarner, MediaOne or their RoadRunner
venture.
I figured the reason for the "ban" on home use was MONEY.
Pretty obvious, it's not that they are imposing an all out "ban".
They just want your money, how nice.

Mostly they own 24.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 I don't know if they own it all, but a
good portion. I know mediaone, @home, and time warner are all on
24.0.0.0/255.0.0.0. I'm not sure if they are all the same network.

Does anyone know if there are specific IP ranges associated with
Comcast@Home?
We have several hundred SR users in the US and I'm sure most of them ignore
email from their ISP.. I'd like to run a report on our fw logs to get users
names that may be impacted by this new policy.

I contacted @Home this afternoon--I had been scheduled for installation this
week. Needless to say, I cancelled my order.
Bottom line is that they DO intend to implement a policy of banning VPN
traffic over their network for @Home subscribers. How they intend to enforce
such a policy effectively is open to speculation.
I was given a few explanations as to why they intend to ban VPN. The first
was that they "don't support networks." Funny, eh? Second was that it
requires too much bandwidth. Finally, the "@Home network is intended for
business use." I.e., they clearly want people to pay-up for the "@Work"
service in order to do VPN from home.

P.S.--When I first called today and mentioned VPN, the rep. declared that
"we've been getting slammed with calls like this..." I suspect that if
people keep the pressure on them, we'll see a rapid retreat from the policy.
