Perhaps it would be useful to have a simple PHP-based wrapper around

I agree that manipulating XML at the DOM level in an object-oriented
interface can be a little bit tedious. But the DOM classes aren't
_that_ bad after all, and they're no worse than most object-oriented
manipulation of hierarchical structures usually are. Any wrapper
classes that give the same level of functionality as the DOM classes
likely would have the same level of complexity. They'll only have
different method names.
While we welcome proposals, we tend not to approve solutions that
either duplicate or else wrap classes that already exist in PHP 5,
unless the new solution provides some compelling added value.
Changing all the method names to ones that are easier to type is not
sufficient added value. ;-)

Just for clarification, my "criticism" of the DOM implementation isn't
really a criticism. Actually, I love the object-oriented nature of the
extension. It was just difficult to wrap it into my own class
structure when I tried to use it. I do like it, and I'm amazed at how
fast it is, in fact. I probably could've benefited from keeping my
mouth shut. : -D
