Re: My question after last week's meeting about Adept broken, but Aptitude worked on Kubuntu 6.10, I started from scratch, first with Kubuntu 7.04 amd64, and I got repeated disk read errors just trying to run the live CD. I then tried the i386 iso (this is on my Fujitsu laptop with Turion64, and the install worked perfectly (of course, with passing the acpi=off param during the boot to live running, which then appears to pass that to the install, and Adept now works! And so does Aptitude, just like before. Just for grins and giggles, I went ahead and did a sudo apt-get install synaptic (I don't remember the exact magic incantation, but my confuser told me what to do when I tried to run Synaptic from a term), and that's it. I am converted! While Synaptic isn't quite as easy (for me, at least) as YaST or smart, it rocks!!!! Adept and Aptitude suck, blow, and spew by comparison. Oh, by the way, Feisty sure does boot fast on this laptop (32 bit install). I don't know whether my problems with Adept not working vs Aptitude, which did work were because of the 64 bit install vs a 32 bit install, or a borked library in the 64 bit install, or a borked encryption key, but who cares? My laptop is now running ggggggggggreeeeaaaaaaaaaaaatttttt. (Apologies to Tony the Tiger). So, for now, if someone is running an Amd 64 laptop(not sure about desktop or server motherboards) and prefers KDE, I would recommend installing the i386 version, and installing Synaptic the very first thing. Just my $0.02 USD, and worth every penny someone might pay for it. ct
