I have tried using lp but I have also just used 'cat <file> >/dev/lp0'.  I 
thought that would bypass CUPS and pretty much everything else.

Doesn't writing to the /dev/ bypass all that stuff though ... or am I missing 
something?

That is what I have been doing with the captured files because I thought that 
should be bypassing any 'processing' by CUPS or the like.
