Yep catting directly to the /dev/lp0 devices bypasses all print systems and 
should give you raw access to the parallel port. I would check the bios of the 
AIX & Linux machines for there parallel port configurations. And it is 
identical "printing" device that you are moving between the AIX and Linux 
machines correct?
