Actually, I misspoke on a couple of points. We can turn off the reminder
altogether, and if everyone really wants that, I'm happy to do it. It is
a bit of a hassle, because then users have to remember their password so
that they can change settings or leave the list... or email me to do it
for them... And it won't change the fact that mailman's passwords are
not meant to be more than mildly secure, of course.
And the obvious work-around I didn't mention - just use a password you
don't care about. It's only used by mailman for changing your mailing
list settings.
