I've installed/setup x11vnc to do some computing while I'm at work as my iPhone has a nifty VNC viewer. I had it set up perfectly to view the desktop in the proper resolution as if I were to connect a monitor to the machine. This is also a benefit to me as I have only one monitor at home, so I can skip a kvm switch and still run XP and Xubuntu machines simultaneously.
However, my Xubuntu machine has grown its own "personality" as the desktop resolution has changed when viewed in the VNC Viewer from the 1024x768 res that I was using for a while and now it is 640x480. I don't know what could have caused this as all settings prior to this change and the current settings are the same. Yet, I have different results. If doing the same action and expecting a different result is a definition of madness, what happens when you do the same action, but different results occur? Anyway, I've played around with x11vnc options and attempted to change what I believe may be causing it. However, nothing is actually saved and I am incapable of getting my 1024x768 resolution on the Xubuntu desktop. While I'm not an expert at Linux (yet), I know enough to get a migraine just thinking about how illogical this seems to be (unless there is a forced resolution change inherent with x11vnc, but my research has not produced this). I have gone to Applications/Settings/Xfc 4 Settings Manager/Display, but the highest res available is 640x480 since I've noticed the change. I know this is incorrect as I've had it 1024x768, even when viewed with TightVNC via x11vnc. What could be causing this? I have a screenshot, if anyone is interested.
