Based on what Travis has said about being ok with Joe taking it on, I would vote to let Joe take it and migrate the addresses.

What say you all? Any resolution?

And Joe has suggested just migrating the addresses. This would be
pretty easy, I can extract that data very quickly.

So please, let me know what you all want to do... the clock is
ticking on that  hosting.

I am also in the process of moving my domains from GoDaddy
(because of their support for SOPA) and Moniker (b/c I've been
hearing bad things about their customer service since they were
bought out, although I personally haven't had an issue yet).

I would be happy to take over the domain name registration and
hosting. I have an unlimited hosting plan, and the domain name
expense is small. On the other hand, I have not been attending
the
meetings of late, so some might consider me an absentee member
like Vern -- although this semester, I shouldn't have class
conflicts and plan to attend at least some of the Ivy meetings,
since I live right down the street.

As for the list archives, perhaps it would be best to save only
the old addresses and delete the content. Someone here might be
in
dire economic straits someday and be forced to apply for a job at
GoDaddy, Frontier or Microsoft and might not want their mailing
list comments to be easily retrievable, despite having been
warned
"This is a public list and all posts are archived publicly.

keep this in mind before posting."

I would be willing to take over registration and hosting for
2012 unless
someone objects or unless someone else would prefer to take it
over. I
don't attend meetings but I do follow and utilize the mailing
list. The
only thing I'm unsure about setting up is the mailing list
itself so I
might have some questions but I'm sure I will figure it out.

Vern, if you hear from the other members that this is ok we
can exchange
the needed information. I would prefer to just transfer the
domains over to
my gandi.net [8] account but I do have a GoDaddy account if
the domain needs to
live there for awhile.

Hi Travis,

To be honest, I don't know that we need to worry about
transferring the
list archives - this list is archived at gmane.org [27]. I'm
sure we could
extract the email addresses and load them into a new server.
While it's a
mailman list, unfortunately the actual command line interface
is not
available IIRC, so I'm not sure of exactly what options we
might have. I
suppose the worst case would be to set up the new list and
then send out a
few emails to the old list nagging people to sign up on the
new list.

The domain doesn't have to live at GoDaddy at all... it's
unlocked and
ready to transfer to any place, really. The reason I mentioned
GoDaddy is
that it is a bit easier to just hand over ownership internally
there.
However, I'm not that thrilled with them at the moment, so I'd
be just as
happy to move it directly off of there.

For everyone else on the list, either make a counter offer or
suggestion if
you want...

Cheers,

Vern

Agreed, their stance on SOPA is disgusting.
