Wouldn't have thought it was on the way out just because the palm rest  
gets warm - is it the original stock 4200 RPM drive ?

Can you get any monitoring s/w for it at all, for temp and or fan  
speed, I'd personally not worry about heat unless your machine starts  
shutting down at random.

But then again it's an iBook ...
