Malcolm It was given to me with the 'its get very hot' line. However, I have had a lot of iBooks/PowerBooks and they all get hot - some very hot. So far I have installed OSX and the updates and some software and browsed on it for an hour or so and it got hot, but not out of character for an Apple portable. Maybe my friend just isn't used to Apple portables and the heat they give off. Maybe it doesn't have a big problem after all. Simon Simon: Based on your descriptions, I really don't have a serious problem with your iBook. I think you are seeing normal function. My iBook was purchased from Mac reseller who installed a new larger HD. I too noticed thd same heating pattern you reported. However, the iBook, which came with Panther installed and 384MB or RAM, ran perfectly with no glitches. After upgrading, first to Tiger and later bumping the RAM to 640MB, I've noticed it generates much less heat. It still gets warm in the same area on the case, but not as intensely. I think your machine is, most likely, fine. --ryan --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
