Actually, OS X has caused it's own problems on many computers for me, requiring an install to fix itself. I did reinstall leopard though, due to other issues also coming up, and it fixed them all but this one. It did get better, but it still happens every now and then.
The memory is 1GB of DDR2, running OSX 10.5.5. Also, a note, my Windows XP desktop has had the same virus-free install for years now, and hasn't bluescreened once. Mac OS X may be a more stable, clean system, but it's important to stay rational with the windows bashing, as it just makes OS X users look somewhat ignorant. This does happen with no other apps running, but the mouse does not turn into a spinning wheel unless an application is trying to play a sound. I'll make a video/recording of what's going on as an explanation.
