I don't know about Wallstreets, Lombards, and Pismos, but I can tell you for certain that all the "colored" Macs, meaning both the clamshell iBooks and colored iMacs WILL boot from USB in certain conditions. The conditions are: the firmware must be the final version. You must use either the Option key boot, or select the USB drive from OS 9.x Startup Disk. Using OS X's Startup Disk won't boot USB. The external USB device must be self-powered since the boot tries to initiate before the power is available to run the drive. That being said, it IS possible to boot USB flash drives, or at least people have reported success with this (I haven't done this myself). I have booted both USB optical discs and USB HDs on many clamshell iBooks. It's not easy, and sometimes takes many tries. It's slow. Not a recommended method, but will work in a pinch. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
