This is a DVD ROM drive we are talking about, very few (If any) DVD ROM
drives had upgradable firmware, this only came about with DVD writers,
it has nothing to do with Apple V the rest of the world.
It is well known that early Apple DVD drives disliked +R disks and any
flavour of RW disks, the same was true of many early PC drives (In the
CD days Sony got taken to court as they deliberately adjusted their CD
drives to reject burned disks in the belief that it would stop piracy !!).
Even if the firmware could have been upgraded it would still not fix the
problem (the pioneer DVD writers in early Macs can be upgraded but still
only burn -R disks).
you either need to find a brand of disks that your Pismo likes, or
change the drive or use an external FireWire drive.
Ben.
