Paul That is my article and I have swapped drives from all sorts of machines.
I've put a slot loading dvd drive from a Mac Mini into an Intel iMac, then into a Pismo. Most machines have their own special cable or fixing for connecting the drive to the logic board but can use the same drives. It has a combo drive screwed down into the frame. It's missing the outer plastic parts that you see on drives that can slide in and out of drive bays on larger laptops. The article said that you can take the outer shell from one optical drive and fit to to another and then install it in a drive bay. That gave me hope that I could move it into my Pismo. However, with this drive, the connector is different, the orientation is upside down relative to the one already in the Pismo, and so now I'm wondering how many different incompatible ones there are. It's as though I bought a generic IDE hard drive and discovered it didn't work in all recent computers with an IDE controller. How many different incompatible laptop optical drive fittings are there? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
