This article about installing optical drives in Mac laptps gave me some hope: http://lowendmac.com/ed/royal/08sr/pismo-lombard-optical.html
I was given a wrecked Powerbook G4 12" that I've been scavenging for parts. It has a combo drive screwed down into the frame. It's missing the outer plastic parts that you see on drives that can slide in and out of drive bays on larger laptops. The article said that you can take the outer shell from one optical drive and fit to to another and then install it in a drive bay. That gave me hope that I could move it into my Pismo. However, with this drive, the connector is different, the orientation is upside down relative to the one already in the Pismo, and so now I'm wondering how many different incompatible ones there are. It's as though I bought a generic IDE hard drive and discovered it didn't work in all recent computers with an IDE controller. How many different incompatible laptop optical drive fittings are there? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
