I have a powerbook pismo 500 mghz firewire edition,i wanted to install
a 80gb 2.5 hdd i had got from a G4 powerbook,i could partition
it,start a tiger install but t would error out at the end of the
install, the thing was that the stock firmware was old, older firmware
versions don't support bigger hdd's and the one i had in the pismo was
30gb,so i had to install mac os 9 and update my pismo's firmware to
4.1.8,then it took the 80gb hdd. now i setup my pismo do actaully
run tiger 10.4.11 and mac os 9 in classic mode,so i'm runing a hybrid
OS,i can run any mac os 9 program within Tiger,so i don't have to dual
boot on ym new 80gb hdd ^_^

so just update your firmware to 4.1.8 and your bigger hdd will take
but you have to install mac os 9 first or you can download the mac os
9 virtual disc image and run mac os 9 just so you can update your
firmware

Installation instructions:

Mount the disc image. Open the virtual disk and copy all of the
enclosed folders to your ROOT directory (NOT your user directory!).
In other words, the "System Folder" should end up at the same
heirarchical level as your OS X "System" folder.

Open System Preferences. Give it a moment to refresh and find the OS
9 System Folder. The Classic icon should appear in the bottom row of
System Prefs. You now have Classic installed!

If your Mac is capable of booting into OS 9, you can use this
installation to boot with, but you won't have certain drivers, like
the CD-ROM. If that is what you are looking for, then you need the
full-blown OS 9 install CD

hope this helps ^_^
