I own a similarly upgraded Pismo running OS X 10.4.11 and OS 9.2.
When he says it will not play CDs what does he mean? No audio? These
laptops at this age are known for having audio problems. My sound
frequently goes out in sleep mode. When I reboot it comes back. If
he's saying he's not getting sound out of iTunes AND the optic drive,
I suspect it's the sound card. You might find out if that's the
problem and go from there.
