The laptop won't boot---grey screen---when the HD is installed in the machine; i.e. connected as it were at the factory.
So I installed the HD in a firewire case, and with the optical drive still installed, and using the T command, I was able to boot the machine and work on it...no problems. So the question persists: is it the ribbon cable on the HD that went bad. What you said seem to suggest that both the HD and the optical drive use the same bus, so you've partly answered by question then that it's not the bus that's crapped out, since the optical drive works when the machine is booted from an external firewire. Would replacing the HD ribbon cable fix the problem; make it possible for me to install the HD back into the laptop as it were? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
