This is a bit of a red herring, the 128GB limit is ONLY on the IDE/ATA
bus, it does not affect USB / FireWire drives, however a USB drive on a
Pismo would be painfully slow as the Pismo only has USB 1.1 (you MAY be
able to find a compatible CardBus USB 2 card for it).
The most lightly thing is that the Pismo does not like the USB
controller in the WD drive OR that the Pismo cannot provide enough power
from the USB port (is this a bus powered drive? if so can you use an
external power supply with it, as most notebooks limit the power on the
USB ports compared to desktop computers), as I don't have a WD drive to
try I cannot comment further on this but hopefully someone else has
tried this combination.
I would strongly recommend getting a FireWire enclosure to use with the
Pismo.
Ben.
