FWIW, I have a g4 sawtooth that exhibits this problem, it is the
internal scsi card that does it. Sorry that doesn't help much, but I
believe it started with a firmware update.

There is a "weight saver" thingy for the pismo you can stick in to
cover the whole and leave the dvd out except when you are using it.
Could find on Ebay for ~$10 or so.

Do you use the mouse button much ? I don't since the button on my 3400
broke, I got used to clicking with the trackpad ...
