Hi Fellow g-bookers! I have recently inherited a G3 Lombard 400 Mhz.
While it is a fantastic computer for my daughter it has a problem with
startup... When the machine turns on, it regularly (say 90% of the
time) chimes but has no video, and the power light under the screen is
off. If I pull out the power plug and put it back in the machine will
then start up properly. If I do the PMU reset, it will startup
normally once, then go back to the problem the next time. I am worried
that this method of restarting will damage the HD.

The machine's battery pack is dead - it shows no lights, and in the
status bar there is a cross on the battery icon. The PRAM battery is
also flat as the machine doesn't keep time (goes absolutely crazy -
time all over the place!).

Is the startup problem related to the batteries? I knew about the dead
battery when I took the machine but thought we could run it fine off
the yoyo power adapter as a desktop machine... any help would be
greatly appreciated! The machine has 256mb ram, OS 10.3.9, and is
running a netgear wireless PCMCIA card as well. It has the problem
when the card is disconnected to, so no conflict there I think.

Thanks
Deb
