Wallstreet II was the last "Old World ROM" Powerbook. Only OS-X 10.2.8 and below are officially supported on this machine. To install Panther or Tiger, you have to use Ryan Rempel's XPostFacto application.
(http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/) When installing to old world machines, Apple's OS-X installer requires the system to reside within the first 8GB from the start of the disk. So larger disks have to be partitioned, and OS-X has to be installed onto the first partition, which must be less than 8GB in size. That's the story according to Apple, but it's not the last word... I found the 8GB limit irksome for running Tiger on my similar Wallstreet. The solution: make use of XPostFacto's "Helper Disk". Following is a sketch of the install process (not a substitute for XPostFacto's documentation): (1) Use Disk Utility to partition your hard disk with a small (<7.9GB) partition first in the list, with the remainder of the disk partitioned as you like. (2) Install OS9 somewhere. You will most likely have to reboot and run XPostFacto from OS-9 as part of installing Tiger. It is also handy to have a default natively supported OS which the machine will revert to if your XPostFacto-supported OS fails. (3) Use XPostFacto 4 to boot up from the install CD, using your first small partition as the "Helper Disk". Then install OS-X wherever you like on your hard disk. I currently have Tiger X.4.11 installed to a 30GB partition of a 120GB drive by this method. (4) When first booting up using XPostFacto, make sure your small first partition is selected as the 'Helper' in the drop down menu of the dialog box. (After the initial boot up, subsequent reboots do not need to be done via XPostFacto unless the system has been changed) hth.. Alan Afterthought: You may find 300MHz PDQ gets hot driving 512MB RAM. If so, consider getting one of those laptop mounts which have a fan blowing air externally onto the underside of the machine. ========================================== On 2009-10-15 21:39 -0700, Ashgrove wrote: >Hi there, > >I just got a nice 300Mhz Wallstreet II (aka PDQ) that boots fine into >OS 9.2.2.
