Your reply is not only top posted but it's HTML using tiny tiny 
fonts.  So I'm going to strip the HTML.... You know, to comply with

The above is .... so far off base.... sigh.  The Pismo in question 
WORKS.  It does NOT have a memory problem, so reseating the RAM is 
plain old bad advice.

As for freezing the whole computer...  OMG  WTF?!  Freezing a dying 
HD -- JUST the HD mechanism -- works *sometimes*, in order to kick it 
back to life long enough to extract some data.  Other than that there 
is just NEVER EVER a reason to freeze a computer.  Furthermore,,, 
even tho it was in a zip top type bag, there will be humidity within 
- frozen into the computer.  So when you boot, you add heat - which 
will thaw that "frost", quickly adding liquid water to the computer's 
internals.  THAT is a surefire way to DESTROY a laptop!
