Hi Felix

> If you use the HiCap software, you CANNOT boot from OS 9.
As I recall (I did the final install before giving up in disgust on Saturday,
and my memory is rather goldfish-like these days), I did get OS9 to install and
boot: firstly 9·1 from an official retail disk, then 9·2·1, then 9·2·2 from
disk images I burnt to a CD ages ago. It was only when I gave in to the
temptation to initialise the 'above-128GB' partition in OS9, then restarted,
that Pismo locked up.

> That's the only caveat. A small price to pay, IMHO.
Pure OS9 on Pismo (and G4/800) seems faster than Classic emulation on either
machine. I accept that this may be my imagination - I've not done speed tests.
However, a favourite game definitely only works under pure OS9. It goes
horribly wrong in Classic, possibly because Pismo is talking to my DVI monitor
via a PC-slot videocard: I fear there's one translation too many of video data.
Otherwise, I agree that Classic works fine.

This is why I'd like to get a 86zMHz or 1GHz Ti-book: built-in DVI, also
possible to boot in Leopard (for back to my mac), Tiger or OS9. I'd leave Pismo
as a webserver, ideally with an SSD drive to reduce electricity costs and wear.

I may well try it again. If so, I will do some speed comparisons. I don't need
the extra capacity but I would like any speed increase available if I'm to keep
using Pismo as a games machine. (G4 is too noisy!)

Yep. Another G-bookersuggested Hitachi so I trawled their site. Well over £100
plus shipping from US because Hitachi don't market them in the UK. However, the
160GB HD I have was free, apart from the time failing to clone my existing
install to it, then installing from scratch...

Thanks to everyone who has commented on this thread.
