thanks all for replying. i decided to be brave and boot it up whether
it blew up in my hands or not. yes i have a leopard install dvd,
bought it myself. i shoved it in to have a look, and of course, wait
bout 5 minutes for everything to settle down, and it pops up, so i go
utilities, disk utility. it browses for available disks, and.....the
only thing that registered was my CD drive, which is weird cause rite
now you can here it powered up and spinning. at the moment it is
sitting beside me attempting to boot. for the last half hour the HDD
sounds incredibly busy, but nothing but a grey screen on top.....i
know about the RAM slot faults (bought the machine with 2GB but now i
only have 1GB.... :( and the only thing that im thankful for at the
moment is the fact that i have a 1TB iomega external HDD which i
hooked up to time machine when it was still working... i had used most
of the new 160GB hitatchi drive anyway. i think i will report this to
either hitatchi or maplin (where i bought the drive) and complain
because it only did around 5-6 months, and before it died it showed no
signs of doing so... anyway thanks for your comments everyone...i
think its high time for another ebay auction...
