So the plug on the laser printer is a male 8 pin mini DIN-- anyone know if there is a specicic name for the commensurate plug?

What goes in there is a serial cable. There is no second serial port on a WS because the Wally has a built-in modem, and that second serial port would ordinarily go to an external modem, anyway.

For an AppleTalk-connected laser printer, either a LaserWriter or a LaserJet with a JetDirect card which supports AppleTalk, you would need two AppleTalk connector kits, one for each end, and an interconnecting cable.

At this point in time, its probably easier to connect to a laser printer using Ethernet.
