The original hard drives tend to eventually give out. You can replace the original HD with a new/used/refurbished one but another option is to go solid state. You can buy an 8GB or 16GB compact flash card for $50 or less and a CF>40 PIN IDE adapter on eBay for a few dollars and make a flash memory drive. Computer runs cooler and boots up faster.
