Okay... tonight I had some time to play with the G4.  On your
insistence I disconnected
the optical drive and booted it up.  Same results with the exception
that the screen
actually displayed distortion when it froze.  First time I've seen
that and seems to
confirm that it suffers from the infamous video chip issue.
