I did run version 9 on my Pismo, and except for the advanced features
it worked great. There was an upgrade that broke it, and I then went
back to 8.2.1. Now, I do not remember which exact upgrade broke iTunes
on my Pismo --I think it was either 9.2 or 9.2.1--, so I cannot tell
you for sure.
