Hello,
I have a 17" Powerbook, 1.67 high resolution model. The hard drive
died so I put a new one in.

Since putting the new one in the computer hangs when booting off
either the Tiger dvd or the hard drive.

The only way I could install the os was via target mode.

The computer will start up and show the startup screen and go past the
login screen, the cursor arrow appears( but cannot be moved,) but
hangs before the hard drive icon appears on the desktop when starting
off the hard drive.

It gets to the blue screen after the welcome screen when booting off
the dvd.

Things I have tried:

ram removed, reseated and tried in both slots.

different hard drives

reset pram, power manager, open firmware reset all

boot with hard drive disconnected

boot off panther cd

run disk utilities with no problem

reformat drive and write zeros before os install

All of these with no progress. Also I have tried to post this message
to the G4 book list but it won't show up there, which I can't figure
because as far as I can tell I am a member of that list as well.

If anybody has further suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Also
if it isn't breaking any rules if someone who is also a member of the
G4 books list could paste this and post it to that list.

Thanks for any help,
Richard Jepsen
